ASHTANGA CLASS SCHEDULE
MYSORE YOGA: Monday – Friday | 7 AM*, Tuesday & Thursday 6AM*
PRIMARY SERIES: Sunday | 8:30 AM*
*No class on full moon and new moon days: Friday Nov. 17th, Sundays Dec. 3rd and 17th
Ashtanga Yoga as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India is the origin for the “vinyasa” style of yoga. The active, moving sequence of postures is lead by an awareness of the breath and specific focus points to stabilize the body & mind for life ease and deeper states of meditation. * The “Mysore” style is a teacher-guided class in this active vinyasa style of yoga, the student is not “on their own”, as is often misunderstood. The student is taught the sequence verbally and given individual tips & hands on help in a group setting. A student can then tune into deeper awareness of patterns of body and mind for their benefit and comfort in the practice. Mysore style is very good for new students to yoga or the ashtanga style because of this individual pacing.
SUNDAY 8:30 – 10 AM: LED ASHTANGA VINYASA PRIMARY SERIES
All levels are welcome, although some yoga experience is helpful for this class as it is a vigorous practice. The class is 1.5 hrs and is an active moving flow of postures as taught by K. Pattabhi Jois of India.
If you are new to ashtanga, please arrive to start between 7 am and 7:30 am weekdays (8:30 Sunday), and you will be led in the sequence of ashtanga vinyasa even if you are still learning and memorizing the postures. You are also welcome to observe the ashtanga style to see if it is for you, or contact us with any questions at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Classes are taught by Julie Southwell, Dayna Taus, Hannah Marciniak and Peter Bertero. Peter Bertero is Authorized Level 2 in the Pattabhi Jois lineage at the K.PJ Ashtanga Yoga Institute, in Mysore India. Julie is Authorized in the Pattabhi Jois lineage by his son, Manju P. Jois.
